Double murder probe as two found dead in house in Moat Road, Oldbury, at 4am

Two people were found dead at a Midland home after police bundled their way in at 4am.

Officers found a 54-year-old man and a woman aged 52 dead inside the property in Moat Road, Oldbury, early on Tuesday, February 25.

West Midlands Police said it was alerted amid “concerns for the welfare of the people living there”.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of two murders at an address in Smethwick at around 5.30am.

He remained in custody and the victims’ relatives were being supported by trained officers.

The force moved to calm community concerns, saying: “Our initial investigations have lead us to believe that this is a domestic-related incident, with no threat to the wider community.”

Parents on the morning school run passed by as forensics officers in white suits continued their work.

Residents and passersby expressed shock at the tragedy, saying it was a quiet area popular with families and dog walkers.

One said: “I’ve lived here 20-odd years. It’s really quiet around here.”

Dog walker Robert Lole said: “I just heard it on the news. The area is very good and I’ve never had any trouble.”

And another onlooker said: “It’s a lovely quiet road. People bring their children to school.

“Everyone is really friendly and there are lots of dog walkers on Barnford Park and lots of people saying good morning.

“Everyone is absolutely shocked and can’t believe it. It’s a lovely friendly area and I have lived here all of my life. It’s just a complete shock.”
